37w3d. The air is thick with anticipation!!! We can’t wait to meet our little baby son!! Only the last baby shower, the weekly doctor appointments & a few odds and ends remain to occupy my time. I sleep a lot now- at least 12 hours per day. I don’t really mind because I figure I had better store some extra sleep up!!
I woke up Thursday morning with an eye infection...argh! So I went to a MedClinic to have it checked out. I was amazed at the thoroughness of the examination!! So now I have antibiotic drops for it. It actually hasn’t spread to my other eye or DH!!! I am glad I got it this week and not after the baby arrived. I’d had to pass it on to a newborn! It started improving yesterday and only bothers me slightly now. You can hardly see the redness anymore.
I had my 37 week OB appointment also on Thursday. Last week I was "very soft" but no dilation. This week I am one cm dilated!!! Things are progressing! She says baby is probably just under 8 pounds now. I am not effaced any though- I didn't know you could be dilating without any effacement at all! Dr. said she doubts I'll make it to my due date... but of course you never really know. Blood pressure, heartbeat, urine were all fine. I measured at 38 weeks. I lost 2 pounds for a total of 15.5 pounds. I am Strep B negative too.
Being told that I’ve started dilating really put me into gear! I finished painting Blue and rearranged his room back to normal, plus packed all our hospital bags that night. I still need to paint the letters of his name for on the wall, but I can’t put them up yet anyway because we haven’t told anyone his name yet! I also have a shelf to paint for over the changing table.
I think I am still steadily progressing because I lost some of my mucous plug last night. It was kind of green, which concerned me. If I have any more green, I’ll give the nurse a call tomorrow. I think I am having more contractions too, but they are so difficult to distinguish from the baby stretching out!! Anyway, they aren’t painful. I have regular cervix pains too, especially when I sit leaning back slightly- like on the couch. They hurt a bit more but are definitely exciting! We have tried several things in the last 2 days to get labor going- spicy foods, eggplant parmigiana, BDing & walking. So something is working!!
Friday night was our last class and it covered breastfeeding. I guess I was more prepared from my books than I thought because I didn’t learn too much. DH was amazed at how complicated it was. I am glad he understands that it may not be a walk in the park!! We did see some videos of a baby latching on that were good. And we had to laugh at the fake cloth breast the instructor used to demonstrate with. We also toured the hospital system’s breastfeeding store. Their prices were very good! They have a free weighing station too for when you are concerned that your baby isn’t eating enough and they provide free lactation counseling to all women.
