Midway through my vacation, Waynell treated me to my first pedicure. It was at a place inside their Wal-Mart called Regal Nails. I was unaware of anything special to begin with, since I had never had a pedicure before, but I got special treatment because they saw that I was pregnant!!! The two employees there were the first strangers to acknowledge my pregnant status!!! That means I now LOOK pregnant! WooHoo!! :o) I do believe I hit a growth spurt this week!!
On one of my last days up there, I went ahead and registered at their Wal-Mart for our first baby shower. Waynell is going to throw us one on December 18th!! I can’t wait! It was fun to choose some stuff but Wal-Mart has very little selection compared to Babies R Us. I couldn’t believe this store didn’t have one infant car seat to look at!!!
Darrell stayed home to work and go to his work’s Halloween party. I had bought a cute cat’s mask for myself and he later found a similar mouse mask so I sewed us tails to be pinned into sweats. I never got to see him dressed up but maybe someone took a picture. I never got to wear my costume because the Hayride and Weenie Roast that his parents had planned for the weekend after Halloween got rained out. Bummer! We would have been cute together!
On the long ride home, Darrell and I decided to discuss baby names, since we now know it is a boy. We started out in a serious conversation but it degenerated quickly. We made a few stops and had a heck of a time finding a baby names book but finally found one. We went through the entire boys section and, frankly, one or the other of us didn’t care for just about all of them. The only names we both at least partly liked were John (Darrell’s grandfather’s name), Gene (Darrell’s dad’s name- as a middle name), Robert, Brendan, and Andrew. Good thing we still have lots of time to decide!!
Also during the same ride, my Aunt Cathy called us. We had been playing phone tag all week. So I told her it was a boy and called both my Aunt Sue and my mom to tell them the same. All of them were happy and my mom even ended her call with, “I’m so excited!” That’s a lot for my mom!!! But my Aunt Sue did tell me that my cousin’s baby, Meghan, was diagnosed with PPD, a form of autism. There seems to be some research going on to determine if giving young babies multi-shot injections (such as the MMR shot) is causing a higher number of children with autism. Another thing to discuss with the pediatrician!
When we got home I had a huge birthday present waiting for me. My brother David had made me a beautiful wooden baby gift. It is a high chair, rocking horse and desk all in one! Apparently he made it without a pattern too! :o)
