18w2d. I’ve had a little nausea in the last 2 days, but nothing too bad. It seems I have gained 2 pounds since yesterday… must have had too many tortilla chips and queso. :o) Mexican food has definitely been my favorite the last few months.

I might have felt lots of kicks in my lower left side last night- like 4 in 2 minutes and then more later- but the last few were so strong that it might have been just a ligament or something stretching. It is so hard to tell!! I cannot wait for someone else to feel it from the outside just so they can reassure me that yes that WAS a kick!

Back in the early-early days of this pregnancy, I went on a book shopping spree. One of the books I bought was "Boy or Girl: 50 Fun Ways to Find Out." I decided to pull it out yesterday and told Darrell that we should go through some of them since we only had two weeks left before we’d know for sure. So we spent the afternoon going through all of these old wives tales that we could. These things ranged from how I look and feel to dangling different items over different parts of my body to watching how I picked up certain objects- and they got funnier and funnier and funnier! We couldn’t do a few of them because we didn’t have the materials needed (like the famous Draino one) or because we mutually decided to wait until next week (for example, are you carrying high or low?). So our tests aren’t over but we managed to do 39 out of the 51 (the extra one was a chart, not a test).

I remember writing about how my Dad saw my first ultrasound picture and how he thought it looked like a puppy. Well, he has continued to be more positive that it is a puppy with every ultrasound after. Our gales of laughter started when I’d take one of these gender tests and what I did WASN’T AN ANSWER. For example, one of the tests was to set a cup of coffee in front of me and watch how I picked it up. Well, I picked it up by putting my palm over the top and grasping it with my fingers. That wasn’t an answer- our choices were picked up from the side (girl) or picked up from the handle (boy). We laughed together and gave a tally mark to puppy! If only my Dad had been here!

Darrell’s favorite test of all had to be the one where he told me to go stand in the shower and after fiddling around in the kitchen for awhile, came up behind me and threw cornmeal over my head. Of course, I startled big time and asked what the heck he was doing!!!! He promptly answered with, “Touch your nose or your mouth.” Huh? Apparently my touching my mouth meant a girl was on the way. Who came up with this?!

I have to say that my biggest laugh was when he had me close my eyes and laid 2 of our big couch cushions on the floor. He told me to choose one and sit on it. Well I sat on one and promptly fell off of it backwards… we didn’t know whether that meant I chose the right one or it bucked me off because I didn’t! Turned out he had a spoon under one and a fork under the other. My fork meant a mark for a girl.

One of the biggest gender predictors on the internet is the Chinese Conception Chart. Except that I found that different websites had different charts and I had several come out boy and several come out girl. But I figured that the chart in this book had better odds of being the correct one than not so I used it as another test. This is the chart:

The results so far indicate:
16 tests indicated BOY
20 tests indicated GIRL
3 tests indicated PUPPY

I also polled some family and started a poll online. The online results will be in my next entry but this is what my family thinks:

Me- started out BOY, then GIRL, now I have no clue
Darrell- GIRL
Waynell- GIRL (but we joke because she thought it was a mouse in the 3rd U/S)
Gene- BOY
Dad- PUPPY (firmly, in fact)
Dave- GIRL
Tammy- GIRL
Mark- GIRL
Cathy- GIRL
MaeMae- GIRL

Just think, in a couple more weeks I won’t have to type “s/he” or “it” anymore. Have I mentioned that I am SO excited?!!! ARE YOU A BOY OR A GIRL??? LOL.
